Eugene Sexton Berry, Jr. is a practicing attorney, whose office is located in the Jackson, Mississippi suburb of Byram, Mississippi. He resides in Ridgeland, Mississippi, another suburb of Jackson.
He is a lifelong Mississippian; he was born in Jackson, raised in Simpson County, and graduated from Newhebron High School in Lawrence County. He holds an undergraduate degree in Accountancy (Magna Cum Laude) and a law degree from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). While in law school he was on the staff of The Mississippi Law Journal.
At Ole Miss he met a wonderful lady, Beatrice Mae Langston, who is the love of his life. Upon graduation, they married and have been happily married ever since. They have no children, but raised two delightful young men from Honduras, Javier and Alex, with whom they stay in touch.
His law practice, as it has for over a quarter century, consists of closing real estate loans for persons desiring to purchase or refinance homes. He prepares and drafts documents as well as searches and examines the public records to determine who owns a property and helps to correct any real estate title issues. He writes lender’s and owner’s title insurance policies through Mississippi Valley Title Insurance Company.
He has served on the Zoning Board of Ridgeland, Mississippi, for six years, including chairman of the board for one year. During this time, while respecting the rights of businesses, he always sought to protect the homeowner from unwarranted and unrestricted development.
He is an active member of his church, having served in the past as a building committee member, men’s fellowship coordinator and usher.
In his spare time, he cooks, reads, swims and gardens and plays the piano. He also enjoys his Boston Terrier, Rhett.
He prides himself in becoming highly computer literate. This is remarkable, since he did not even know how to start or turn off the computer until the year 2000.
